LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say a 15-year-old has been arrested after officers found a handgun on him at a Las Vegas high school.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the discovery of the Mojave High School student's .40-caliber handgun after school Wednesday near the football field marks the fourth time this school year that a firearm was confiscated from a Clark County school campus. The school year began Aug. 13.
Eighteen guns were confiscated at Clark County schools in the last school year.
Capt. Roberto Morales, of the Clark County School District Police Department, says the student's gun Wednesday was loaded. But there was no indication that he threatened to use it.
Under Nevada law, the newspaper reports that the student faces a minimum charge of possession of a firearm on school property and expulsion.
