NSHE Board Approves Meana As Acting UNLV President

At a Nevada System of Higher Education meeting Monday, the board of regents approved UNLV Honors College Dean Marta Meana as acting president of UNLV.

Regent JT Moran was the only dissenting vote, saying the board didn’t have enough say in her departure.

Moran had aligned closely with the philanthropy community that was angry at Len Jessup’s departure.

At the meeting, he asked questions of Meana that included asking if she was more qualified than Len Jessup. Meana will start as acting president on July 1 and remain in the role until a national search for a full-time president is complete.

Meana has been the dean of the Honors College since 2012 and was previously a senior advisor to the UNLV President. This comes after Jessup announced his resignation in April.
