Feds Plan Roundup Of Horses In Spring Mountains

Federal authorities plan to conduct a roundup of wild horses who they say are on the brink of starvation in the Spring Mountains.

This is the second roundup in less than three years.

The U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management announced Monday as many as 200 horses in the Cold Creek area are in immediate need of food due to drought conditions and overpopulation.

Starting next week, the agencies plan to gather and begin feeding the animals.

They will then be moved to a BLM holding facility in Ridgecrest, where they’ll be made available for adoption or transferred to off-range holding facilities.
