Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson says he is not planning to play an active role in vacating past misdemeanor marijuana-related convictions for Nevadans.
Wolfson made the comments in a recent interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Cities in western states where marijuana is legal, including Seattle, San Francisco, and San Diego, are planning to reduce nonviolent marijuana convictions.
The Nevada Legislature last year passed two laws shortening the amount of time someone convicted of a misdemeanor must wait before being able to petition the court to seal their record, reducing that time frame to just one year after the sentence is completed.
Wolfson says his office will review those petitions on a case-by-case basis, a stance that is in agreement with statements by Governor Brian Sandoval.
