Two rural areas in Northern Nevada are making a case for themselves for the planned Interstate 11 route.
As state officials map out the best route for Nevada’s portion of the highway that will eventually link Canada and Mexico, Humboldt County and Winnemucca say they are well-positioned for it.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports the two jurisdictions issued a joint statement saying it’s imperative to connect large agriculture producers in southern Idaho with Northern and Southern Nevada.
The I-11 corridor will extend through the Tuscon and Phoenix area to Las Vegas roughly along U.S. Highway 93, and then proceed north to Interstate 80 along the path of U.S. 95 in Western Nevada.
One proposed route would continue to follow U.S. 95/Interstate 80 to Winnemucca.
