The Bureau of Land Management has approved two uranium mine expansions in southeast Utah, including one near Bears Ears National Monument.
Faced with stagnant uranium prices, Energy Fuels Resources sought to expand at its Daneros and La Sal mines in anticipation of resuming operations.
The move comes despite opposition from environmental watchdogs and the Ute Mountain Utes tribe.
