Organization, Resource Center For Day Laborers Launched In Las Vegas

An organization and resource center dedicated to fighting for the rights of day laborers launched in Las Vegas on Friday.

While popular in states like California, the Las Vegas Worker Center is the first of its kind in Nevada.

The group kicked off efforts with a day-long forum held at UNLV’s Boyd Law School.

Then later, the Arriba Worker Center opened near Charleston Boulevard and Eastern Avenue.

The Las Vegas Worker Center is sponsored by the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, which advocates on behalf of day laborers, many of whom are undocumented and reluctant to speak up when their rights are violated.

A survey by the network said the most common jobs are in moving, landscaping, and construction.
