Explosion At TIMET Plant Rocks Downtown Henderson

An explosion rocked an industrial plant near downtown Henderson Wednesday morning. It occurred about 8:15 a.m. at the TIMET plant located on North Water Street.

An issue involving magnesium used in the manufacturing process at the plant caused the explosion. Henderson city officials said one person received minor burns, but no one else was hurt and no hazardous material was released.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports TIMET has had issues with safety in the past. TIMET reached a settlement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 2016 for an accidental chlorine release at the plant four years ago.
