RENO, Nev. (AP) — Last year was the wettest on record in Reno.
The National Weather Service says the 13.73 inches of precipitation at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport during the 2017 calendar year surpassed the prior record of 13.23 in 1983.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the city also recorded its fifth-hottest year. The mean average temperature of 56.1 degrees was nearly one degree above the 10-year average. The prior four hottest years have all occurred since 2012.
Even with record-setting precipitation, Reno saw only 26.6 inches of snow, just the 44th highest annual total.
Conditions in 2018 are shaping up to be considerably drier than 2017. As of Jan. 1, the Sierra snowpack was 60 percent of normal above 8,000 feet and only 20 percent of normal below 8,000 feet.
