LAS VEGAS (AP) — Crews have finished installing nearly 800 steel posts between the street and the sidewalk along the Las Vegas Strip to keep pedestrians safe from vehicle attacks.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the crews finished installing the posts, also known as bollards, on Wednesday.
On the same day two years ago, a woman drove her car onto the sidewalk in front of two casinos, killing one person and injuring more than 30 others.
The recently installed bollards are capable of withstanding a head-on collision from a 15,000-pound vehicle traveling at 50 mph.
They are connected by underground steel frames.
Clark County plans to install an additional 7,500 bollards along the Strip between Sahara Avenue and the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign next year.
