Nellis Air Force Base officials are opening land north of Las Vegas for a rare bighorn sheep hunt.
Fifteen hunting tags have been issued at the Nevada Test and Training Range for hunters to traipse into three mountain ranges which are normally off limits.
The Las Vegas Review Journal reportshunters must pass a criminal background check and submit a full inventory of firearms, as well as complete a safety training before being allowed on the range.

Bighorn sheep tags are among the most competitive and hardest to get in Nevada. Thousands of hunters apply each year for the few hundred tags that are issued. Two state game wardens will patrol the test range during the hunt.
