University Of Nevada, Reno Gearing Up To Sell Historic Homes

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The University of Nevada is developing a process to try to preserve a dozen historic homes on the edge of the Reno campus by allowing for their sale and relocation off land slated for future development.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the Nevada System of Higher Education, which manages the state's colleges, gave UNR permission to transfer ownership of the homes last week.

The homes were built between 1895 and 1971 and are located north of U.S. Interstate 80, a few blocks north of the downtown casino district on the southern edge of the campus.

It's an area the university targeted for future expansion of the campus under plans unveiled two years ago.

According to Executive Director of External Relations Heidi Gansert, the institution's plan will be out after Jan. 1.
