Thursday will be the last in a series of meetings seeking public comment regarding the Clark County School District’s policy on gender diversity.
The district has to establish a policy and train its school personnel on the rights and needs of students with gender diverse expressions under an anti-bullying law that was passed by the state in 2017.
The topic has gained a lot of attention among parents with differing views on the matter.
A similar meeting held with the Nevada Department of Education last week lasted over three hours as board members heard from more than 50 speakers, some of whom said that forcing their children to comply with the regulation went against their Christian values.
CCSD’s Gender Diverse Working Group will evaluate the comments, as well as surveys taken from parents and community members and policies adopted in other school districts to make their presentation to the full board of trustees in January.
