The committee in charge of distributing millions of dollars raised for the victims of the mass shooting in Las Vegas held the first in a series of public input sessions Tuesday.
The committee is hearing from survivors and the families of those who were killed at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival.
Victim advocate Jeff Dion said there is more than $16 million available for anyone who was impacted by the events of the shooting, including concertgoers, vendors and first responders.
“Even if you were outside the concert area, because we know the shooter impacted such a wide area from where he was that it’s not limited to people who were just inside the fence area of the concert grounds," he said, "It does not matter if you are a citizen of the United States or what your immigration status is. Everyone who is impacted, that doesn’t affect your eligibility at all.”
Dion said that victims do not need a lawyer to apply for the funds, and the protocol is to set up benefits to those who were injured and hospitalized to receive the most support.
