The Washington Post reports that the case could also have significant implications for the 10 th Amendment of the Constitution, which separates legal powers between federal and state authorities.
The case stems from efforts by New Jersey to legalize sports betting there, which began with the passage of a referendum in 2011.
The state has lost several times in lower courts, but a victory at the Supreme Court would undo Nevada’s sports betting monopoly. Legal experts say that a ruling in favor of New Jersey could have significant repercussions on issues covered by the 10 th Amendment, such as gun control, immigration, and sanctuary cities.
