ELY, Nev. (AP) — A Nevada sheriff announced his decision to resign after 30 years with the department.
The Ely Times reports White Pine County Sheriff Dan Watts has accepted another position with the Shoshone Tribe as its chief of police. Watts signed a four-year contract with the tribe.
Watts will be the chief over all law enforcement for tribal land in the Shoshone area. Watts says he had many sleepless nights trying to decide if this was something he wanted to do but there were many contributing factors, including financial ones that made this decision right for him and his family.
During his 30-year tenure with the White Pine County Sheriff's Department, Watts made substantial changes to the White Pine County jail facility, so that it met National Jail Standards.
