Clark County Pedestrian Deaths Outpacing Last Year's Total

Authorities in Las Vegas say a 69-year-old man is dead after being hit by a pickup truck.

Las Vegas Metro Police say the accident occurred about 8:45 p.m. Saturday near West Flamingo Road and South Lindell.

Investigators say the pedestrian wasn't in a crosswalk when he was struck.

He was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The Transportation Research Center at the University of Nevada Las Vegas says this death matches the number of fatalities for all of 2016.

The 2016 count was higher than 2015’s as well.

The Center says that the county has seen "dramatic increases" yearly since 2010.

About 80 percent of last year’s pedestrian fatalities were attributed to walker error, while this year the fault is more evenly distributed.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
