Nevada Democratic Assemblyman Nelson Araujo announced Monday his intention to run for Secretary of State in 2018.
Araujo represents Assembly District 3 in Clark County and served as the assistant majority floor leader in the 2017 legislative session.
This announcement comes a few days after Democratic Reno City Councilman Oscar Delgado withdrew from consideration.
Republican incumbent Barbara Cegavske is seeking re-election to the post.
In his announcement, Araujo said he wants to close the gap between early voting and election day and allow for same-day and automatic voter registration.
