Wildfires In California, Across West Cause Thousands To Flee Their Homes
Wildfires across the West, including 19 of them in California, forced thousands to flee their homes over the weekend.
Rainstorms allowed Los Angeles to cancel evacuation orders late yesterday for a wildfire that the mayor called the largest in the city’s history.
Eric Garcetti had declared a local emergency earlier in the day and Governor Jerry Brown did the same on the state level for Los Angeles County after the wildfire destroyed three homes and threatened hillside neighborhoods.
Authorities ordered evacuations for another small California town facing a blaze that has burned 9-square-miles near Yosemite.
Crews are also protecting homes from a fast-moving wildfire that forced evacuations in Riverside County.
