The federal government is asking Clark County for more than $75 million in alleged unpaid rent from the Bali Hai golf course.
The Nevada Independent reportsthe U.S. Department of Justice’s Commercial Litigation Branch sent a letter to the county, asking for rent plus interest to be paid by September 1.
Clark County acts as a facilitator for the Bureau of Land Management, which entered into a profit-sharing lease with a development company owned by prominent Las Vegas gambler Billy Walters.
Trouble is, the arrangement never actually made any money. The federal agency contends the county should have been collecting roughly $1.3 million in rent every year from Walters. County officials dispute the liability for back rent.
