Fremont Middle School Employee Dies Of TB, Dozens Screened After Exposure

An employee at Fremont Middle School in Las Vegas died of tuberculosis last month, after potentially exposing more than 100 people to the disease.

Public health officials said Monday the school’s principal sent a phone message to parents on July 11, explaining that someone at the school was recently diagnosed with the highly-contagious disease.

According to a statement from the Southern Nevada Health District, 114 people who had contact with the victim were identified and screened. The school is still planning to open August 14. The school district does not mandate tuberculosis screening for students or employees.
