AG Finds Reno City Council Violated Open Meeting Law

The Nevada Attorney General has found that the Reno City Council violated the open meeting law last year when it approved a $3.5 million subsidy for a developer.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that when the council approved the subsidy in November, it didn’t put the value of the agreement on the agenda. After the Open Meeting Law complaint was filed, the council held a meeting in December to ratify the agreement.

However, the council didn’t include corrective language on the updated agenda, and the attorney general found it didn’t sufficiently remedy the situation. The city’s attorney has advised the council to put the issue back on the agenda for its meeting this week.
