With less than two weeks remaining in the Nevada legislative session, an emergency bill is in the works that would ensure raises for school district employees who complete professional growth plans.
The director of the state’s largest teachers union was in front of lawmakers this week lobbying for the change. John Vellardita said that the bill will require the district to put in place a policy to that would create incentives for teachers to improve professional based on the needs of the students in their schools.
Salary schedules typically focus solely on years of service and advance degrees, not professional growth in the field. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reportslanguage of the bill was not yet available but will be introduced by State Senator Aaron Ford.
