Cold Front Bringing Rain And Snow To Northern Nevada

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A windy cold front is expected to carry rain and snow across most of northern Nevada Tuesday night and Wednesday before high temperatures soar back into the 80s at the end of the week.

The National Weather Service says only a few inches of snow is forecast in the Sierra around Lake Tahoe, but more than a foot could fall in the upper elevations of the Ruby Mountains in northeast Nevada near Elko.

A winter storm warning is in effect from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 11 a.m. Thursday at elevations above 6,000 feet in northern Elko County. A winter advisory is in effect for lower elevations, where 1 to 4 inches of snow is expected.

In western Nevada, winds are forecast to gust to 40 mph to 60 mph in wind-prone areas, including the Washoe Valley south of Reno.
