LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say a 47-year-old man with a history of misdemeanor convictions including arson has been arrested on suspicion of starting two fires at a Jewish synagogue in Las Vegas.
Afshin Bahrampour was being held Tuesday at the Clark County jail pending a court appearance on arson and burglary charges following a car fire late Monday at the Chabad Jewish Center of Las Vegas and a trash can fire two hours earlier inside the building.
No injuries were reported.
Las Vegas fire spokesman Tim Szymanski says it appears the car fire was intentionally set, and local and federal investigators were probing the cause of the wastebasket fire that people inside doused without calling firefighters.
Rabbi Shea Harlig says surveillance video showed Bahrampour on the property just before both fires.
