Bill To Lower Credit-Hour Limit For Silver State Opportunity Grant Gets Little Push Back

A bill reducing the credit-hour minimum for the Silver State Opportunity grant was heard by a Nevada Senate committee yesterday with little push back.

The Nevada Independent reportsunder Assembly Bill 188 the credit-hour minimum would drop from 15 to 12 for the state's need-based community college grant program.

Supporters of the program, which was established in 2015, said a minimum of 15 credit hours is a difficult bar to hit for many students enrolled in community college, who are often non-traditional students with families and working full-time jobs.
