RTC Plans To Give Metro Access To Bus Surveillance Camera Feeds

Officials say surveillance cameras inside city buses will give Las Vegas police real-time access to them.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the move comes after an incident last month where police could not see the actions of a gunman who barricaded himself inside a bus parked along the Strip. Police say the bus' vinyl advertisement also obstructed their view.

Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada Director Carl Scarbrough says the buses have wireless internet access and surveillances cameras that will give police access to a live feed of the actions inside the buses.

Scarbrough says they are also working on alternative advertisement options that will provide better visibility of the buses' interior.

The project has no estimated completion date, but RTC is scheduled to give an update in June.
