Nevada Voters Oppose Yucca, Room Tax Hike

According to a new independent poll conducted this month, Nevada voters are largely opposed to efforts to reopen the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste storage site and also don’t favor the hotel room tax hikes to help finance an NFL Stadium.

The Nevada Independent reportsthat the poll reflected 58 percent of voters opposed to Yucca, and 55 percent opposed to the hike in room taxes to pay for the NFL Stadium.

Clark County voters were split on the issue of the room tax hike with 50 percent opposed, while 71 percent of Washoe County voters were opposed.

Yucca Mountain, has long been a sticking point between federal officials and Nevada political leaders. The poll showed only 23 percent of voters who said they were strongly in favor of it opening.
