RENO, Nev. (AP) — Nevada Republican Congressman Mark Amodei has taken his name out of the mix of potential 2018 gubernatorial candidates.
Amodei told the Reno Gazette-Journal Wednesday he won't run for governor but left open the possibility of seeking re-election to Congress or running for attorney general.
Amodei said earlier he wouldn't run for governor if Attorney General Adam Laxalt or Sen. Dean Heller decided to seek the GOP nomination.
Heller is out, but Laxalt has $1.5 million cash in his campaign fund and is still considering whether to seek the office being vacated by GOP Gov. Brian Sandoval in 2018 due to term limits.
Amodei said he talked to Laxalt a month ago and got the impression he will run for governor. He told the Gazette-Journal, "It sounds like the wheels are up and the throttle is forward."
