RENO, Nev. (AP) — Nevada has hired Arizona State assistant Jay Norvell as the new head coach for the Wolf Pack.
Athletic director Doug Knuth made the announcement Friday, saying Norvell is known "as a man of great character and integrity."
Norvell comes to Nevada from Arizona State, where he was the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator this season. His career has included stops at UCLA, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas. He also has six years of experience in the NFL.
Norvell succeeds Brian Polian. The school and Polian agreed to part ways in November after four seasons during which the Wolf Pack never broke .500 in Mountain West games.
Polian, the son of former NFL executive and Pro Football Hall of Famer Bill Polian, was 23-27 since replacing Hall of Fame coach Chris Ault. Ault retired after the 2012 season.
