City Officials Look For Downtown Plan

Las Vegas city officials gathered yesterday to chart a plan for the future of downtown, one that includes pedestrian zones and mixed use development.

The joint meeting of the Las Vegas City Council and Planning Commission looked to cities like Denver for guiding downtown development across diverse areas, from the medical district to the arts district and Fremont east.

The Las Vegas Review Journal reportsthat a California-based consulting firm advised that the city’s previous Centennial Plan was an ineffective one for zoning this vision.

The City Council adopted a revamped master plan earlier this year called Vision 2045, which replaced the Centennial Plan. Part of the suggestions made included regulations that created unique areas throughout the city, rather than using the same rules across a broad swath of the city.
