UNLV Gets Grant For Studying High-Speed Rail

UNLV is getting federal funding to investigate high-speed rail development and infrastructure.

The Las Vegas Sun reports the school is getting $1.4 million in federal funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the project.

Nevada already has one of the so-called University Transportation Centers at UNR.

The center's establishment comes as railway infrastructure, both light and high-speed, are under consideration in Southern Nevada.

A plan to connect Las Vegas to Southern California via high-speed rail links has been on the table for many years, with the company XpressWest having won a bid to get that project started.

Meanwhile, light rail along Maryland Parkway is being discussed by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada as a way to ease traffic through Las Vegas' downtown corridor.
