Heller Not Ruling Out 2018 Run For Governor

Nevada's soon-to-be senior senator said he's not ruling out a run for governor in 2018.

Republican Dean Heller told Politico Thursday he would "consider" a run but he was, in his words, "happy with his job."

Incumbent Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval is term-limited and cannot run for reelection.

In the same interview, Heller said his decision may hinge on how well Congress works with President-elect Donald Trump.

During the 2016 campaign, Heller voiced criticism of Trump's candidacy.

Politico says Heller's statewide profile and name recognition would make him the favorite to win the governor's race were he to run.
