RENO, Nev. (AP) — A federal jury in Reno has convicted a man of telling a White House operator that he hated President Barack Obama and was going to kill him.
Prosecutors said Thursday that 50-year-old Steven Eugene Ford was found guilty Wednesday of a federal criminal charge of making a threat against the life of the president.
Ford's defense attorney didn't immediately respond to telephone and email messages.
U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden in Nevada says Ford could face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
U.S. District Judge Howard McKibben scheduled Ford's sentencing Feb. 7.
Bogden says Ford used several names, including Job Ford and Eleazar Melchizedek.
The prosecutor says Ford admitted to U.S. Secret Service investigators that he made the threat.
