Libraries In Reno-Tahoe Area Launch Food For Fines Program

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Libraries in the Reno and Lake Tahoe area are holding another in an occasional series of "food-for-fines" drives that waives fines for overdue books if people donate food for local distribution programs.

Officials say that through November, library patrons can bring one can or box of food to the library for each overdue book or other library item.

Food can't be accepted for lost or damaged library materials.

Washoe County Library Director Jeff Scott says the program collects thousands of pounds of food each year.

Food collected at Washoe County Library locations will be delivered to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.

Donations in Incline Village will help support Project MANA.
