Las Vegas City Hall Plaza To Get Former Mayor Oscar Goodman Name

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A plaza in front of Las Vegas City Hall is being named for three-term former mayor, civic booster and mob lawyer Oscar Goodman.

Officials including former Democratic U.S. senator and Nevada governor Richard Bryan and Goodman's wife and the city's current mayor, Carolyn Goodman, plan to unveil a plaque during a Wednesday evening ceremony.

The City Council voted earlier this year to name the plaza for the 77-year-old Goodman.

The city moved its offices into the building in 2012.

Goodman served as Las Vegas mayor from 1999 to 2011, with a characteristic martini in one hand and showgirls at his elbows.

He focused on renovating a downtown that now has the Fremont East Entertainment District, World Market Center, Premium Outlet Mall and Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health.

Plans were led to the Smith Center for the Performing Arts, the Neon Museum and the Mob Museum.
