Deceased Nye County Inmate Was Jailed On Substance Charges

A Nye County sheriff's official says a 38-year-old man found dead in his cell at the county jail in Pahrump had been jailed on charges of being under the influence of a controlled substance and destruction of jail property.

Sheriff's Sgt. David Boruchowitz said Thursday the dead man was James Duett, and said his cause of death is being investigated.

Officials said Duett was arrested April 15 and was awaiting appearances in state and local courts in Nye County when he was found dead early Tuesday in a solo cell at the jail.

Boruchowitz has said no foul play was apparent, and Duett didn't notify jail staff of health issues or ask for help.
