Millions of federal dollars will help Las Vegas procure buses that are more environmentally friendly.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery program awarded $13.3 million to the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada.
Funds will support a $20.3 million Green Fleet Procurement plan.
The plan will replace about 25 buses at the end of their service life with vehicles that use compressed natural gas that runs clean.
General Manager Tina Quigley said the grant will help the commission reach its goal of an almost completely green bus fleet.
She said the buses are reliable and will reduce costs of fuel and maintenance while improving air quality.
The White House awarded almost $500 million to 40 projects across the country through the grant program.
