LVMPD Gets New Ticketing Powers For Street Peddlers

Las Vegas police can now ticket more peddlers caught violating county codes with its newly expanded civil diversion program.

The Clark County Commission on Tuesday added more offenses that could apply to the program, including unlicensed alcohol sales, unlicensed businesses and blocking public sidewalks.

The program that started in May initially targeted people found illegally selling merchandise.

Officials said the move will continue to free up the courts and jails for such minor offenses.

Those accused would have to admit civil liability and pay a fine of up to $1,000 but would be pardoned from any criminal prosecution, including jail time.
