A lawyer for former Utah Attorney General John Swallow says arguments for dismissing pay-to-play charges against Swallow's predecessor also could apply to his client.
Defense attorney Scott Williams says he sees "no material difference" in the bribery case against Swallow and the pay-to-play case against former Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff.
Shurtleff and Swallow were arrested and charged two years ago after a joint investigation.
A county attorney handling Shurtleff's case moved Monday to drop the charges, citing a lack of cooperation from federal officials and a recent Supreme Court decision overturning former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell's bribery conviction.
The prosecutor handling Swallow's case says his charges won't be affected.
Swallow's attorney had already asked a judge to dismiss his case. No ruling has been made.
