Petition To Void Tonopah's Role As Nye County Seat Fails

A petition that would've put a measure on this fall's ballot to void Tonopah's role as the home of Nye County government did not get enough signatures to move forward.

For now, the effort is dead.

The Pahrump Valley Times reports the Nye County clerk reported to the county commission on Tuesday there would not be enough valid signatures on the petition to certify it for the November election.

Originally, the petition called for eliminating Tonopah's role as the Nye County seat.

Petitioners argued it was the first step to moving Nye County's seat to Pahrump, which has far more residents than Tonopah.

Tonopah has been the seat of Nye County for 111 years.
