The San Francisco-based nonprofit in charge of the Burning Man festival is challenging a $2.8 million Bureau of Land Management bill for last year’s event.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the group filed an appeal in April. The 1,000-page document says the BLM has tried to fill gaps in its budget by overpricing permits for the festival.
Burning Man organizers say they’ve taken issue with permit prices since 2012 because the BLM hasn’t sufficiently explained the cost increase.
The appeal claims the BLM said Burning Man permits would become more difficult to obtain if the group disputed rates.
