Nevada To End Discrimination Of HIV-Positive Prison Inmates

In response to a looming federal lawsuit, the Nevada Department of Corrections will end its policy of segregating HIV-positive inmates away from prison work programs.

The Las Vegas Sun reports the Justice Department had threatened to sue Nevada over its policy, which forbade HIV-positive inmates from taking part in service while incarcerated that could lessen their jail sentences.

Officials say state law will need to change in order to put the new policy into effect.
