A veteran Nevada police officer who wasn't prosecuted in the videotaped kicking of a motorist suffering a diabetic episode during a traffic stop in October 2010 has been promoted.
Henderson Police Chief Patrick Moers tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Brett Seekatz's promotion became effective Monday.
Moers says people can grow and develop, and that Seekatz performed well as a sergeant in the nearly six years since the incident.
Seekatz, a nearly 14-year officer, wasn't charged with a crime.
Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson determined in 2012 that prosecutors couldn't prove malicious intent, and noted that Henderson police policies at the time allowed kicking during arrests.
Moers wasn't chief at the time.
Former Henderson Police Chief Jutta Chambers retired less than two weeks after the video became public.
