A wildfire burning in Elko County has grown to more than 120,000 acres in size.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports [http://elkodaily.com/news/local/firefighters-hold-line-at-midas-acres-scorched/article_95d0b6c0-d14f-5dd2-8011-0c56e4f60b35.html] the fire was caused by a lightning strike over the weekend and grew rapidly.
It's led to voluntary evacuations in the town of Midas, in the northwestern part of Elko County.
Operations at an underground mine in the area were also suspended because of the fire, with the hope of having the fire under enough control by Wednesday to allow the facility to reopen.
At least 250 firefighters were dispatched to the blaze by yesterday, with more en route.
Officials believe containment may not come until Friday.
Among the land burned is habitat for the threatened sage grouse, as well as other land for grazing.
