Elko County may institute a hiring and wage freeze.

It's being floated because of what the county manager is describing as a "tight" budget.
He plans to recommend not filling vacancies immediately and to not increase salaries this fiscal year.
Documents show 84 percent of the county budget is taken up by personnel costs, and these moves would help alleviate the risk of laying off county employees.
