Officials Speed Up Mound House Dumping Investigation

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada environmental officials say they are expediting an investigation into illegal dumping near Carson City after a video supposedly showing a spill there went viral.

KRNV-TV reports that the multi-agency investigation of dumping at Mound House is still expected to take at least a few weeks. The video was viewed at least 800,000 times before being deleted.

Nevada Division of Environmental Protection Bureau Chief Jeff Collins couldn't comment on the ongoing investigation, but he confirmed that the spill occurred in March.

The division is currently waiting for the results of soil sample testing.

Collins said the agency all cases of potential illegal dumping seriously, whether or not there is a viral video. About 600 such cases are reported to Nevada Division of Environmental Protection each year.
