Evacuations Still In Effect In Pine Valley

Authorities say evacuations are still in effect at a small mountain town near a southern Utah wildfire.

Firefighting officials said that the blaze isn't under control yet and Pine Valley residents are still being asked to leave, despite an order Thursday saying it was safe enough for people to return home.

The lightning-sparked wildfire has torched more than a square mile of rugged terrain about 35 miles north of St. George since it started June 13. The evacuations of about 100 homes were ordered Tuesday.

Utah Gov. Gary Herbert has said that those evacuations could have been avoided if drones flying in the area hadn't grounded firefighting aircraft earlier in the week.

Pine Valley is about 300 miles south of Salt Lake City.
