Police: Citizen Who Fired At Shoplifter Faces felony Charges

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police have arrested a 44-year-old man accused of pulling a handgun and shooting at a pickup truck after a suspected shoplifter scuffled with a department store security guard and fled in southwest Las Vegas.

Officer Michael Rodriguez said Friday it wasn't known if the man in the truck was injured in the shooting about 5:30 p.m. Thursday outside a Target store off Blue Diamond Road near Arville Street.

Stephen Howard was jailed pending an initial court appearance on felony charges of carrying a concealed gun without a permit and discharging a firearm, and on outstanding traffic warrants.

It wasn't clear if Howard had a lawyer. A message left at a telephone number associated with his name wasn't immediately returned.

The pickup truck was described as a gold-colored Toyota Tundra.
