Inmate Dies At Northern Nevada Correctional Center

Prison officials in Nevada say a 59-year-old inmate who was serving a two-to-10 year sentence for felony driving under the influence has died in custody in Carson City.

The state Department of Corrections says Walter Earl Day died Tuesday at Carson Tahoe Hospital.

A cause of death wasn't immediately disclosed. An autopsy was planned.

The department says Day was imprisoned in August 2013 following his conviction in state court in Carson City.

He had been housed at a prison medical facility at Northern Nevada Correctional Center.

Day is the 24th inmate to die in prison custody this year, according to the corrections department. That compares with 47 deaths in all of 2015.
